Nominations

Nominations for the York Book Award longlist can be submitted by school librarians, booksellers, and publishers. The longlist is then voted on by participating school librarians, and the shortlist voted for by participating students.

Criteria for nominations are simple:

  • Titles must have been published in paperback from the previous November
  • Titles must be written in the English language. Translations are permitted
  • The author must be based in the UK
  • Titles may be co-authored, but multiple author anthologies are not eligible
  • Titles must be aimed at the 11-13 age range
  • All categories of book for the age range are permitted (e.g. fiction, non-fiction, or poetry)
  • Titles must be either stand-alone or the first book in a series
  • Authors may not be shortlisted two years in a row (e.g., authors shortlisted for the 2023 awards cannot be nominated for the 2024 awards, but may be nominated again for 2025)

Nominations should be emailed to us at yorkbookaward@gmail.com

Due to the disruptive influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 awards extended the publication window for nominations to two years.
